Full-Stack Lead Engineer Job Description
1 in 4 inner-city youth witness a murder by age 17. According to the National Child Traumatic Stress Network, 1 in 3 inner-city youth suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). MindRight is changing the status quo for at-risk youth experiencing trauma. Our texting service provides high schoolers with daily, personalized psychoeducation around positive coping skills for managing traumatic stress. Through our service, we are making it possible for every teenager, regardless of socioeconomic background, to access mental health resources needed to recover from trauma.
We received the Stanford GSB Frances and Arjay Miller Social Innovation Fellowship and Social Change Leadership Awards for our work. We were also named as winners in the 2016 UPenn Milken Education Business Plan Competition. Our work is guided by clinical advisors at the Stanford Lucile Packard Hospital and the USC School of Social Work.
What we need
We need a mission-driven full-stack lead engineer. This individual will build our front and back-end architecture and take the lead on our technology strategy. Our content is delivered over SMS. In our first year, we need a customized web interface linked to a database that (1) streamlines the messaging conducted by MindRight and (2) tracks user progress and learns what content works for users over time. You will develop, build, and test product requirements as we grow and learn, building our internal tools that can handle up to 700 users in our first year and 20,000 users by year three.
We’re looking for individuals who have the initiative and organizational skills to test different hypotheses and prototype rapidly, collaborate with the founding team and clinical psychologists, and develop product requirements as we learn. Full-stack development and engineering capabilities, including one or more of the skills listed:
Experience building scalable backend architecture
Proficiency in natural language processing
Expertise in both SQL and NoSQL database management technologies
Proficiency with large-scale data analytics and machine learning coding
Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Comfortable testing and evaluating hypotheses
Comfortable brainstorming and talking through ideas
Ability to evaluate details while keeping in mind the bigger picture
Open-minded and collaborative--able to assert and back up their positions while fully considering the perspectives of others.
Passion for empowering under-served, inner-city youth
Experience working with disadvantaged youth in a professional, personal, or volunteer setting a plus
Bachelor’s degree preferred
